Well, the new year is here. Time to make resolutions that will most likely be broken before the week is up! But it's not only a day to look forward to the year ahead, but also a day to look back at the previous year and to thank God for guiding you through it.
2011 was full of change for me. At the start, I was very anxious about the year ahead. I had been informed of the possibility of leaving Mexico after five years of missions work. Knowing that you'll have to make a big change like that can make your outlook of the next year very bleak. Then spring came, and we made the move from Mexico back to Texas. Next came a summer of building relationships with both old and new friends and getting significantly closer to God than ever before. Fall brought about the revamping of my youth group (with me as one of its student leaders), the announcement of my brother's engagement, and yet another World Series loss by the Rangers (We'll get 'em this year!). Winter came, and my granddad went. Now 2011 has gone as well, and in the end, most of the changes made last year turned out to be awesome!
We always associate New Years with changes, but do we actually give a hoot about making those changes? Even if it's optional, nobody enjoys making changes. Nonetheless, I propose that this year we make a resolution to fulfill our resolutions. Change is healthy. You wouldn't want to get stuck in an eternal rut! And while we're at it, let's make resolutions that will glorify our Father in Heaven. After all, He got you through another year, didn't He?
Happy 2012!
